Something to think about

  • An unemployed sole parent receives just $394 a week

  • A single parent with 4 children is now $58 below the poverty line

  • A single parent with one child is just $10 above the poverty line.

  • Tweed Shire has 8.3% unemployment while regional NSW has 6.1% (Census 2011)

  • It is expected that the Tweed population will rise by 43% or 129,000 people over the next 18 years (Tweed Shire website)

  • The medium rental rates for a 2 bedroom dwelling is $285. Again some of the highest in NSW. This is now comparable to Sydney metropolitan district.

  • Tweed Heads has the highest number of homeless people per capita in NSW

Footsteps 4 Food Goal

  • Raise as much money or tinned food to support us in providing supplies and assistance for the over 300 people You Have A Friend currently support each week with food packs in the Tweed Shire to those who desperately need it. (These numbers are increasing each week)

  • Encourage the local comunity to walk/jog/run in order to raise much needed food for the many homeless, marginalised and single parents who we know are in desperate need of support

  • Raise awareness of the fact that Tweed Heads has over 1000 people waiting for supported accommodation. The old and many single parents and their children

  • Raise awareness that the waiting list in Tweed Heads for housing on the NSW Supported Affordable Housing List is over 20 years. This is the longest waiting list in NSW and possibly Australia.

  • Pressure the NSW State Government to provide support for the many hundreds of people waiting for supported housing...

A single parent on $394 a week and paying $295 for accommodation lives on just;
$14 a day---- to pay for bus fare, school fees, electricity, water etc
