Our Outreaches Explained

Night Outreaches
Each Saturday and Monday evenings we outreach in Coolangatta and on a Tuesday evening in Murwillumbah.

Night Outreaches involves meeting at our office, packing the van and then proceeding to collect the food from the suppliers who donate to us.

From there we move to the outreach location where our friends eagerly await our arrival. We normally arrive at around 5.00pm and stay with our friends from 1 - 1.5 hours, often depending on the weather.

The food we provide may be pizzas, pies and muffins, tea, coffee and milo. In winter we also provide hot cups of soup. We always also provide hampers of tinned food and fruit if possible.

Our year 11 and 12 student volunteers from St. Joseph's College (Banora Point) and Mt. Saint Patrick's College (Murwillumbah) attend our night outreaches on a roster basis with a teacher.

Lunch BBQ

Each Friday at 11.30 - 12 noon at Murwillumbah we provide a wonderful BBQ for our friends who regularly number 30 -40 people and at times as many as 60 have attended.

Our volunteers collect the donated sausages and fruit and vegetables from generous Murwillumbah suppliers.

The lunch normally lasts between 1 and 2 hours depending on the patrons.

All are welcome and it is a great day shared with the Community staff as well.

One of our volunteers is a wonderful cook and cooks a great meal we share with the residents at the Park. It is a really fun day and there is something special about sharing a meal with your friends under the beautiful mountain with the kookaburas and peacocks and beautiful birds.

Our Breakfasts

We serve breakfasts each Sunday morning at Coolangatta, Chinderah and Murwillumbah.

Our volunteers work on a roster basis with  no less than four volunteers per location and in most cases there are 5 or 6 volunteers per breakfast.

Volunteers meet at our centre at 7.00am where supplies are ready packed, last minute food such as fruit salad may be chopped, bread is buttered and then all teams head out to their outreaches.

Food consists of tea, coffee, cereal, fruit salad, eggs, sausages, toast/bread, cooked tomatoes and onions. In many outreaches, children play on the banks of the river and it is generally a most pleasant and fun time.

If possible, tinned food hampers, fruit, clothing, bedding, books and toys are also provided for our friends to take with them.

After brekkie, volunteers return to the kitchen, unpack and are often back home by 10.00am.

Our Food Drops

In conjunction with SecondBite, Coles Tweed Centro, donates good quality bread, fruit and vegetables to us on a daily basis.

We collect the food from the supplier 6 days a week, sort and pack it into the van and then proceed to distribute it to caravan parks in Chinderah, Tweed, West Tweed, Murwillumbah, Mt. Warning and Wooyung. We also distribute food on different days to 3 community housing complexes and 2 boarding houses

We drive the van to the locations and distribute the food. The service does not normally take more than 2 hours. Normally two of our volunteers collects and sorts the food, pack the van and delivers the produce to our friends in the selected locations.

Our Court Support

Every Monday we provide "court support" in the Tweed Heads Court House.

We provide sandwiches, tea, coffee and other such as chocolates etc. to those waiting to enter court, for a gold coin donation. Not only does this service provide benefit to those waiting to enter court, but at times we have been able to support people in advising them on services available.
