"You Have A Friend" proudly hosted the first ever Tweed Sleepout at St Josephs’ College Banora Point on Saturday 10th October 2009 to promote awareness of homelessness in the Tweed District. Besides awareness and in honour of our wonderful friend "Jimbo" who died last year.
On the night....., It Rained.... It hadn't rained in the Tweed for almost 2 months, but on our night we had showers all night till next morning. Since then there has been no more rain !!!!!!
We have no complaints. It actually made it a lot of fun for the kids and those who slept in wet bags and pillows... very appropriate. It was as though "someone ---- Jimbo perhaps --- had organised it !!! I can just hear him laughing now - he was a wonderful man and had a great sense of humor.
The sleepout also raise much needed funds for the purchase of a van for our organisation to enable us continue expanding our services to homeless and marginalised and those experiencing financial hardship in the district.
To date the Sleepout raised $1600.15 and for this we are most appreciative and thank all our wonderful sponsors, many who turned up on the night to donate and support our cause.
I would SINCERELY like to thank:
- Our many volunteers who did a wonderful job in organising, chasing sponsors, documenting both before the event and on the night
- I also sincerely thank the Tweed State Emergency Service (SES) and Tweed District Rescue Squad (VRA) who did a wonderful job setting up the location for us, making the place safe and also turning up at 6.00am on Sunday morning to take it all down once more.
- Thank you also those who sponsored our cause
- Last but not least, thank you those who "slept" on the night. Without you, we would not have had the fun we did.
God Bless and thank you all,
John Lee,
president,
