Who was Jimbo?
In October 2008, Jim Dores passed away in the Royal Brisbane Hospital after a long illness. An so the earth lost a wonderful caring man who was always ready with a smile, always concerned about his fellow man and women and most of all, the world lost a true gentleman.
Jimbo lived in the Coolangatta and the Tweed area and with a glint in his eyes was always ready to tell his most famous story of the night some 20 years ago, when he fell overboard from the fishing trawler he was working on eighteen kilometres south of Lady Musgrave Island. He was reported missing at around 9.45 pm and not found in the shark infested waters until 5.00am the next morning. “I realised I had to keep calm and not attract the sharks in the area” he told me and was it was not for some wonderful knowledge of the tides and the sea by his trawler mates and SES crew, he may never have been found.
We have named our Sleepout in honour of “Jimbo” and know he will be with us in spirit, always looking over us and supporting us in all we do. And so to a wonderful man, we honour his memory and know his spirit will always walk with his family, with us and his friends forever.
May God Bless and keep you Jimbo.
From all his family, his friends and all at “You Have A Friend”
Rest in Peace Our Friend
